No, this isn’t about Crypto from the Destroy All Humans! video game. But when you’ve got a Tubi round full of possible trash, you just hope some weird-looking alien will come along and save the night — even if he isn’t particularly fond of humans. Probably why I like that game so much. Just kidding.
Sometimes the Tubi algorithm is a generous god. Other times, it seems determined to see exactly how much garbage I’ll watch before I finally crack.
This round of Streaming Roulette was almost an embarrassment. I put my chips down, Tubi started dealing, and things got ugly fast. I was about ready to walk away from the table when Crypto showed up and came to my rescue. Pox would be proud.
Let’s spin this bastard.
Revenge of the Boogeyman (2025)

This is where I put my first bet because it sounds interesting, right? “At a secluded cabin, friends find the Ridgefield Boogeyman legend is real, transforming their getaway into a terrifying nightmare.”
And what happens? A guy hears a weird noise, walks outside, sees a glowing green figure, says, “What the hell?” and promptly gets killed. Stupid people having stupid reactions to monsters? That’s what makes horror movies so much fun. And yes, I did yell at my screen.
We spend way too much time with a cheating husband, his mistress, and enough bad dialogue to make me root for the Boogeyman. I came for monster mayhem, not an affair that should’ve stayed on Lifetime. Then, Ponytail Beard Guy arrives. There is a thick rubber band around the end of his beard so it looks like a ponytail on his chin. It’s the most terrifying thing in the movie, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intentional.
🗑️Our Verdict: TRASH. One down and I’m already pulling out my Zap-O-Matic. The only scary thing here is the facial hair.
Crystal Lake (2023)

This got my attention purely because the title makes me think of Jason Voorhees. Is this a glorious low-budget ripoff? I don’t know what the hell it’s about because in Streaming Roulette you’re just thrown into the movie, but we open on a bathtub crime scene with bodies everywhere. Okay. My kind of blood and guts.
Then the movie jumps into the River of Molasses. Why do some low-budget horror directors think “slow burn” means “nothing needs to f*cking happen?” Move. The. Story. We eventually get to a game of Truth or Dare that veers into a preachy conversation I had zero interest in joining. Tap out.
🗑️ Our Verdict: TRASH. Into the bin with gasoline and a match.
One Night in October (2017)

Now here’s a premise: suburban neighbors getting territorial over Halloween decorations. I wanted to watch that movie. Instead, this serves up a plate of lard disguised as disconnected stories. A scarecrow killer, a girl on a roof, a woman in a wig — I wasn’t even sure what the hell I was watching by the halfway mark. Tap out.
🗑️ Our Verdict: TRASH. Dumpster fire trash you can see from space.
Time’s Up (2022)

A scavenger hunt at a teacher’s party on New Year’s Eve? Sounds fun, except it’s not fun for the teachers when a killer’s involved. It starts strong with a “Father Time” mask and a decent soundtrack, even if the opening premise is a bit grim. But then the “teenagers” show up. One kid has never heard of Princess Diana or the Eiffel Tower. I get that “stupid teens” is a trope, but this was painful.
The party itself is just a group of teachers sitting around talking about… school. Why? If I’m a teacher, the last thing I want to do is have an impromptu faculty meeting — especially if I just left school to go to a party! It drags, it’s preachy, and it’s boring — except for the gossiping teachers. That was at least a little fun. For about 10 seconds.
🗑️ Our Verdict: TRASH. Horror can make a statement, but it shouldn’t make me take a nap.
Thirst (2015)

I almost didn’t want to say it because I’d been burned four times already, but Thirst actually understands the assignment. An alien lands in the middle of nowhere and starts sucking the life out of people? I’m in.
Our first victim gets the Close Encounters electronics-gone-haywire vibe in his truck. Naturally, he stays to take a photo for social media instead of getting the hell out. Bad move because why? Crypto shows up. He’s a nasty Xenomorph hybrid with a tentacle that leaves victims looking like dehydrated mummies.
The setup is a “buffet”: a second-chance camp for troubled teens located right in the middle of the alien’s territory. The kills are fun, the alien looks good, and the movie doesn’t trip over itself trying to be something it isn’t. It’s a creature feature with better production values than everything else I watched tonight combined. It proves that low budget doesn’t have to mean Snoozefest.
🔥 Our Verdict: WATCHABLE. Trashy fun just the way I like it.
Final Thoughts from the Mothership
Tubi finally delivered. I was losing hope, but I still haven’t struck out completely. That’s Streaming Roulette.
Sometimes Tubi hands me Catnado. Sometimes it hands me four consecutive reasons to give myself a brain extraction.
But that’s why I keep spinning.
You wade through cheating husbands, lectures disguised as horror movies, suburban Halloween nonsense, boring teacher parties, and whatever the f*ck was happening with Ponytail Beard Guy…
…and eventually Crypto comes along and sucks somebody into a mummy.
Night saved.
